Rozali Rai has been dedicated to the art of makeup for over eight years. Throughout this time, she has worked passionately to create looks that highlight the natural and unique beauty of each client. Currently based in New York City, USA, she was granted the prestigious O-1 Visa in 2023—a recognition awarded to individuals with extraordinary ability—acknowledging her talent and achievements in the makeup industry.

Before relocating to the United States, Rozali ran a successful makeup studio in Russia. There, she not only provided makeup services but also led signature courses to teach professional techniques. She had the privilege of working with many clients, particularly brides, crafting personalized looks for their special days and ensuring they felt confident and radiant.

A significant highlight in her career has been the launch of her own line of makeup brushes, branded Rozali Rai Brushes. These brushes are designed to combine quality, ease of use, and elegant aesthetics, appealing to both professionals and beauty enthusiasts.

Over the years, Rozali has collaborated with numerous prestigious beauty brands, including Clarins, NIVEA, Beauty Bay, Larte, and OK Beauty, among others. Her work has been featured in various magazines and media outlets, further showcasing her skills and contributions to the global beauty community.

In 2023, she reached a personal and professional milestone by authoring and publishing her first book, The Art of Makeup. This publication captures her knowledge, passion, and years of industry experience. Now available on over 20 platforms—including popular digital stores like Litres and Google Play—the book offers valuable insights and inspiration to readers and aspiring makeup artists alike.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ROZALI RAI

What inspired you to pursue a career in makeup artistry, and how did your journey begin?

I’ve always been a creative soul, drawn to art since childhood—I would sketch anywhere and everywhere. The world of beauty fascinated me, and I found myself constantly doing makeup for friends and even their mothers. Nine years ago my journey truly began when my husband gifted me a makeup course, turning my passion into a career.

How did running your own makeup studio in Russia shape your skills and approach to beauty?

My studio space, my school—it was my creative sanctuary, and I loved every detail of it. Every corner was infused with art. I found joy in creating, teaching, and shaping the skills of many aspiring makeup artists and clients. My studio became a place for innovation, hosting masterclasses and bringing creative projects to life.    

What was the most rewarding part of teaching signature makeup courses to aspiring artists?

I love teaching makeup artists and sharing the invaluable experience I’ve gained over the years—sometimes through challenges, but every challenge brings growth. The most rewarding part is seeing their joy when they achieve results, watching them land major projects, and knowing their schedules are fully booked. Their success is my greatest satisfaction.

How has receiving an O-1 Visa impacted your career in the U.S., and what opportunities has it opened for you?

Receiving an O-1 Visa was a personal victory—an acknowledgment of my talent by the U.S., which I deeply appreciate. However, moving to a new country always means starting from scratch. Unlike in my home country, where my name was well-known, here, I had to rebuild my path and prove myself all over again.

What inspired you to create your own line of makeup brushes, and what makes Rozali Rai Brushes

unique?

I’ve always been passionate about working with high-quality tools. I wanted brushes that were durable, with perfect bristles and ergonomic handles. Developing them took time—selecting the right fibers, designing the handle, and refining every detail. The final result exceeded my expectations. Though production is currently paused due to my move, I hope to relaunch it soon.

Can you share your experience collaborating with top beauty brands like Clarins and NIVEA?

I love Clarins, so when they offered me a collaboration, Couldn’t believe it. I’ve been loyal to their products for years—their concealers, foundations, and glosses are divine. When NIVEA approached me, it felt surreal. They are globally recognized, known by people of all ages. These collaborations were truly special. 

What was the most exciting part of writing and publishing your book The Art of Makeup?

My book is like my third creation, after my studio and brush line. I poured all my knowledge into it—a true guide for aspiring artists, beauty lovers, and professionals. It’s everything I wished I had when starting out—a beauty dictionary covering cosmetics, facial structures, and techniques.

How do you stay updated with trends in the beauty industry while maintaining your own creative style?

I constantly keep up with trends—beauty never stands still. However, my work remains recognizable. Many say they can instantly spot my style, and my eyeliner techniques have become my trademark. Clients often tell me no one creates eyeliner looks quite like I do.

What is the biggest challenge makeup artists face today, and how do you overcome it?

Makeup artists face different challenges, from building a strong client base to dealing with demanding clients. The industry is competitive, and staying updated with trends is essential. But if you love your profession and stay dedicated to your goals, nothing is impossible. Hard work, passion, and continuous learning always lead to

success.

What advice would you give to aspiring makeup artists looking to build a successful career?

Never give up and stay committed to your goals. Our profession brings beauty into the world and makes women feel confident. Hard work is key—collaborate, build your reputation, and make your name known. The most important thing is to keep growing and never stop improving.

What is your signature makeup style, and how do you ensure every client’s look feels unique?

My signature makeup style is all about elegance and precision. I’m known for my eyeliner techniques—I could create the perfect winged liner anytime, anywhere! But, of course, I always tailor the look to my client’s request. I also love polished, radiant skin that gives a luxurious, well-groomed appearance. For me, makeup should always look refined and expensive.
