BOOK

The current series - Alaskan Retribution Genya's Vendetta revolves around Pavel's distrust for law enforcement. Genya is able to exploit this through the militia by recruiting him through an anonymous cellphone number. The Last Frontier militia is also involved in the scheme to promote Pavel's destructive behavior. It is only when Pavel realizes he has been tricked, it is too late for him to reverse course. This comes at the expense of Vlad's own reputation because of his brother's antics, and he is forced to be his brother's caretaker by the court order of a judge. Pavel is released to Vlad, as a result, and the town of Qanir, Alaska would have to recover from its losses.

The genres he writes range from men's action and adventures to science fiction, horror, and erotica (at least two series labeled). The platforms differ on the brand of format for what they want for his writings. Amazon is the main platform, while Apple Books, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble are all secondary. So far, most of the reviews have been positive for various writings. Ranging from three stars to five. The five stars are mostly on Goodreads. While most of his stories would earn him a three-star rating. He is simply trying to get noticed. He will promote his work, as a way to get noticed by the Hollywood industry. He hopes to one day leave his job for a new career in Hollywood. Once he has made it, he will continue to write, whether through Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, or Apple Books. He hopes to make a living out of it, aside from turning one of his series into a script. He has attempted to submit manuscripts and scripts to the Hollywood industry in CoverFly. It is an attempt to get noticed by the industry and get his material to be sold. He has high hopes that his writings would also make a difference in the world.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR MAXWELL HOFFMAN

How did your background in History influence your journey into writing?

I became fascinated with history during my high school and college years. I admired both my teachers and professors alike who encouraged me to be interested in history.

What draws you to write in such varied genres like action, sci-fi, horror, and erotica?

I feel like I should write in a variety of genres. Science fiction is easy because it can involve a number of things such as time travel. Horror is meant for more suspenseful writing along with erotica.

How do you adapt your writing for Amazon compared to platforms like Kobo and Apple Books?

Amazon is my main account with other platforms such as Kobo, Apple Books, and Barnes & Noble being secondary. I am trying to become noticed with Amazon since it's more of a widely used platform. With Kobo, I try to change the sort of world I write in between the gaming industry with AI and the regular world; with Apple Books, more whimsical in terms of having whimsical villains and other characters, while Barnes & Noble is more similar to Amazon.

What’s the biggest challenge in world-building across different platforms?

Getting noticed. Amazon is the easiest platform to get noticed; I haven't made any headway with the other mentioned platforms.

Why is breaking into Hollywood important for your writing career?

It is important to me because I feel I can make a difference in the world in showing the sort of skills I have. I also feel the need to transition to a different career since the pandemic. I attempted computer programming through Unity, but nothing happened in that area.

How has submitting scripts through CoverFly shaped your Hollywood ambitions?

I have submitted about half a dozen scripts so far, but I haven't made any impact yet with CoverFly. I will keep on writing and trying to get noticed. The goal isn't to win CoverFly's contests but to have a script sold through those involved in the contest.

What’s your reaction to the mostly positive reviews, especially the five-star ratings on Goodreads?

I am pleased people are enjoying my books, whether they are a five-star rating or a three-star rating. I do not want to talk down any readers, but if they rate me down, I have to look at the characters I wrote in those stories and revisit them later.

Why do you think Amazon has been more successful for you compared to other platforms?

I have been more successful on Amazon because it's a widely used service, more than Kobo, Apple, or Barnes & Noble put together. There are other platforms out there, but I haven't exhausted my writing on other platforms yet.

Would you continue writing novels if you make it in Hollywood?

Yes, I will continue to write novels when I make it in Hollywood. I feel it's important since that will be my living.

Which genre are you most excited to explore next?

The genre that I am excited to explore next is the coming-of-age genre. I have touched base somewhat with my character Bellamy Archambeau, with his past on how he became a rebel in his hometown in Canada before venturing out into the world. I might do more similar characters in the future.

What’s your take on AI’s growing role in storytelling, especially in sci-fi?

I have used AI on a limited basis, in the stories for science fiction mostly focused on my Kobo platform stories revolving around the AI character known as Ra-E's interactions with various games of a fictional gaming company involved in my Kobo book series. I try to draw an actual parallel to other series that are indie-funded. Most notably, The Amazing Digital Circus piqued my interest in writing some of these AI-inspired stories.

What impact do you hope your stories will have on readers and audiences?

My hope is that the readers would feel entertained and enjoy my books. I am hoping they'll get some sort of impression out of me that I am determined to transition careers into something new. That I will always have fresh ideas to come up with.

How do you feel about being featured in Voraka Magazine, and how do you think this recognition will influence your future storytelling projects?

I hope to get my foot in the industry thanks to Voraka Magazine with my journey in transitioning careers. It is something of a different experience than just trying to go into the traditional interview process with a traditional job.
