Angelina Jolie, at 49, has disclosed that her residency in Los Angeles is largely due to her divorce. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained that she remains in LA because circumstances related to her separation from Brad Pitt necessitate it.
Since their 2016 split, Jolie has been embroiled in ongoing legal disputes with Pitt, including disagreements over their shared winery and the custody of their six children: Maddox, 23; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Last year, Jolie mentioned that she reduced her filming commitments seven years ago to prioritize her children’s needs, which currently involves staying in Los Angeles.
Jolie mentioned, "Once the twins turn 18, I'll be free to move." She emphasized the importance of providing her large family with privacy, peace, and safety, despite sometimes feeling that the environment in LA lacks the humanity she’s experienced in other parts of the world.
Looking ahead, Jolie plans to spend considerable time in Cambodia and visiting her family members wherever they may be globally.
Regardless of her location, Jolie's children remain her top priority, even influencing her career choices. After completing her new film, "Maria," and a few other projects, Jolie is eager to take on more significant directing roles and possibly explore playing a villain—a role distinct from her portrayal of Maleficent.
"Maleficent is actually a good character. My villains usually have a redemptive side because they’re often just people in pain," Jolie explained. "Honestly, it would be nice to do something lighter, so my kids can hear me laugh more. As an artist, I feel a desire to create something that brings joy to others."
