Andrew Tate, a self-proclaimed misogynist influencer, has been prohibited from leaving Romania while he awaits trial. This comes after a Romanian court of appeal on Tuesday reversed a prior ruling.
Tate was detained in late 2022 and formally charged in mid-2023, along with his brother Tristan and two Romanian nationals, for allegations of human trafficking, rape, and establishing a criminal organization to sexually exploit women. They have denied these accusations.
Earlier this month, a court in Bucharest had decided that the Tate brothers and the two other defendants were permitted to travel freely within the European Union until their trial.
However, the appellate court overturned this decision, mandating that the four men remain in Romania until the trial concludes.
“The court has ruled, and we respect its decision,” stated Eugen Vidineac, the Tate brothers’ lead attorney, on Tuesday.
“Tristan and Andrew Tate will fully adhere to the Court’s decision and the conditions of their judicial control, as they have consistently done so far.”
Following the initial court decision allowing him to travel within the EU, Tate had posed a question to his followers on X: “Should we take the (Ferrari) SF90 to Italy, the (Maserati) MC20 to Cannes, or the (Ferrari) 812 Competition to Paris? Where should I go?”
This bravado is characteristic of Tate, who has risen to internet fame in recent years by amassing billions of views on TikTok with his rants about male dominance, female submission, and wealth.
